Look and Feel COOL this SUMMER and #justgetdressed

While summer generally calls for a more relaxed, laid-back approach to dressing,  that doesn't mean you don't need to #justgetdressed;)  And you definitely don't have to sacrifice style.

To help, I'm rolling out the Summer Style System at a discounted, very affordable rate.  The reason it is about half the price of my Seasonal Style Systems is because it uses the SPRING Style System capsule and adapts it for summer.

*NOTE:  If you were a member of the Spring 2019 Style System, you should have received an email from me with instructions for accessing the Summer program at a discounted rate.  If you didn't receive that email, drop me a note and I'll get you the special link.

It's no  coincidence that I am launching this Challenge and Style System at the same time that the Nordstrom Sale and all the associated hysteria and hype hits.

It's quite tempting to sit around in our summer equivalent of pj's or yoga pants and shop all the so called "MUST HAVE" Fall items.  And yes, I did place a healthy order so I'm not immune. If you'd like to see a curated catalog of my #NSale picks, click here

HOWEVER, I  encourage us all to live in the present (i.e. SUMMER --- the season many of us love most) and actually get dressed each day (or most;)  using the spring and summer clothes we already own.

To make it easy to #justgetdressed this summer - and look  (and feel) cool in the process -  I invite you to join the B.Styled Summer 2019 Style System where you will get a daily email for 21 days with an outfit formula that you can make work with what you own, where you live, and what you do.  Click here to learn more or just go HERE to sign up!

I hope you'll join us!

Thanks for reading and for your support of my means more to me than you know.

Now, get back to the weekend!

Cheers, Beth

The Problem with Most Men’s Wardrobes

This morning dilemma is not limited to just us women:

He wakes up and needs to get ready for work.  He  jumps in the shower, then heads to the bedroom and opens the closet.

It’s full of clothes. There are  wire, wooden and plastic hangers tangled together. Shirts are mixed in-between jackets. Pants are folded on shelves, hung on hanger and/or strewn on the floor.

He grabs the same shirt and pants as every other day, looks "meh", and is out the door feeling less than inspired by his appearance.

“You  need new clothes.” you tell him -  or he tells himself.

He heads to the mall. Maybe you go with him.

It's annoying.  You argue and are on each other's nerves. He decides on a couple of shirts so he can get out of there.

The next day, he wakes up to the same cramped closet of clothes he hates.

It's deja vu  all over again.

Two things are at work here:

  1. There’s a good reason why we can stare at a closet full of clothes and not find anything to wear. It’s called the paradox of choice. That is, the more options we have, the less likely we are to make a choice. You know how when you go to a  restaurant with a huge menu and it took you forever to decide what to eat? That’s the paradox of choice working against you.
  2. Shopping for clothes out of frustration is a huge mistake. I talk about it all the time and refer to it as  “Panic Mode Shopping”. When you shop out of frustration, you’re going to make some poor choices. When you’re starving and have nothing to eat at home, what do you do? Are you heading over to Whole Foods and buying some salmon or lean chicken breasts and kale? No, chances are you're grabbing fast food junk. And a pint of Ben and Jerry's please.

So if he's heading out and just buying more bad clothes, he's making the Paradox of Choice problem even worse.

When I work with my 1-on-1 clients, the first thing I  do is help them purge their closets in order to rebuild it.

It’s like a nutritionist going through your fridge and pantry and tossing out all the junk food.

We want to make room for the RIGHT stuff. And just like proper nutrition, there are certain guidelines to a great wardrobe:

  • Versatility Pieces will need to do double or triple duty. We can’t have many of those one-hit-wonders in a functional wardrobe.
  • Solid, neutral colors  I've talked about this often.  The foundation of an amazing wardrobe is the basic ESSENTIALS. This is the case with a man's wardrobe too.  Think solid neutral colors like black, navy, white, and khaki. No graphics, no logos, limit the  crazy patterns.
  • Appropriateness His wardrobe needs to be appropriate for his lifestyle. He can't decide to only wear jeans and  t-shirts if his job requires a blazer.
  • Quality When you're building a functional wardrobe, it pays to invest more in higher quality clothes, especially items that you’ll be wearing back-to-back like jackets and shoes.

Depending on his lifestyle and needs,  his wardrobe might lean more casual or more formal. Whatever the case, my Men's Spring/Summer Business Casual Style System will help him have a closet that’s 10x more stylish with 10x fewer clothes.

Best of all,  it will help him #justgetdressed and out the door feeling much more confident and polished - and we all know the ripple effect that has on the rest of his life, and even his career.

So treat the guy in your life with this easy-to-follow guide, and know that I'm here to help him (and you) find specific things as well.

For example, a member wrote to me asking for a good weekender bag for her son who travels a lot and needs something a bit more polished now than his old college duffle bag.  I added suggestions to the program's clickable catalog so that all members can benefit from the question.

When you order the program for your guy,  you'll receive a link and password to the entire program immediately.  You'll also get a printable PDF you can give him as an affordable, clever, unique and thoughtful gift.

This will be much more fun  - and less expensive - than that annoying, directionless trip the mall.

Any questions? Drop me a note!

Jeans and a White Top

Ever since the early days of FlirtyFinds and B.Styled, my mantra has been, keep the foundation simple and then change it up with accessories and the Magic Third Piece.  It’s so simple, and I say it so much, but that’s because it’s SO true.  One of my first ever blog posts as B.Styled was when I went an entire week wearing jeans and a white top – every day.  No one noticed my xeroxed outfit and it was so easy to make it look completely different each day.  The hardest part was keeping the white top clean;)

So the next time you’re at loss for what to wear and are tempted to stay in your yoga pants, grab these pieces that you “should” have in your closet already:

Perfect for you Jeans + White Top + Leopard Belt (optional) + Interesting Necklace + Neutral Booties (in the spring/summer you can sub neutral sandals).

You could call it day at that point, but to add interest and warmth, and change the look, just add any of your Third Pieces:  cardigans, jackets, wraps, scarves, vests.

Easy, right?   Here are 10 looks I came up with just grabbing things from my closet.  You can do the same!  Shop your closet first, but there are shopping links below as well.

Now, my dearies…go #justgetdressed 😉

The Versatile, Lux Ruana

Peach just introduced a special new product and it's a winner  -- .both as a gift for just about any woman on your list...and as an outfit maker for YOU.  You know I'm all about versatility and this one definitely checks that box.

I'll wear this little number with jeans or moto leggings and boots as cozy and chic alternative to a sweater.  I'll wear it dressed up as a wrap over over a little black dress or jumpsuit.  And I'll wear it on the beach over a sundress.   It's a light-weight knit, so you warm-weather gals can enjoy it too.

With 10% cashmere and 90% wool, it's soft and elegant, not at all scratchy, and has a flattering asymmetrical drape that fits and flatters.  And one-size-fits-all makes it the perfect gift for your sister, mother, daughter and girlfriend.

Gray Knit Ruana, Dressed Down and Up

Ruana •  Boots  •  Moto Pants •  Jumpsuit  • Heels  •  Pendant Necklace  •  Statement Earrings

One Dress Five Ways (and counting…)

Hey Friends!

It’s time to start ignoring the weather and instead focus on all the SPRING invites heading your way.  I’m sharing a dress that is not only insanely soft and comfortable, but also can work for any number of occasions…not to mention the office too!

Note that I’m featuring this dress, but maybe you have a solid color, fits-you-perfectly dress in your closet and you can apply these same principals to what you already own.

I think everyone in the western hemisphere is now familiar with Erin, and her blog, Living in Yellow…probably the hottest blogger/facebook sensation out there.  I love following her and feel like we’d be friends (even though I was in college when she was born) . She is down-to-earth, KIND and funny in a very real way.  She may be about a zillion years younger than I am, but I love her style and get great ideas from her that I can adapt to work for me and my clients and readers.

She has collaborated with Gibson, a favorite brand of mine, and created her own Gibson x Living in Yellow  line.  It has some fantastic pieces that are easy-to-wear, versatile and work for a vairety of sizes, shapes and age groups.

It would be my DREAM to create a line of easy-to-wear, affordable, inclusive and great-looking clothes for my demographic (the over 45-50 to  70 plus crowd who wants to dress and feel our best).  Our demographic often gets overlooked or typecast, and I for one refuse to go down Frumpville Lane, no matter my age. Mary is almost 93 and she feels the same way;)

I digress… But Nordstrom – if you’re listening…I am totally open to working with you.  HA!

Now, let’s talk dresses.  I don’t have many occasions to wear them, so when I buy a dress, I like it to be — say it with me people…V- E -R-S-A-T-I-L-E.  I sound like a broken record, but I do think the key to a successful wardrobe is versatility.    Before you hit “add to cart” for anything – think of at least 3 different ways/occasions you could wear the item.  Deal??

The Hannah dress  by the Gibson x LIY line is a great example.  It comes in a full range of sizes from petite to plus and is designed to fit a wide variety of body types.  It caught my attention when I read this LIY blog post and saw this picture of “the dress”:

It comes in gray and black, but this “fuchsia red” color jumped out at me as it is such a powerful, flattering color.  Let’s just take a minute to look at these women.  All different shapes and sizes, ages and coloring.  Wow.

Many of us are hesitant to wear a color like this…fearing that it is too bold, or stands out too  much.  I say  – challenge yourself.  Get out of your comfort zone,  recognize that you are powerful and bold and GO. FOR. IT.  Try it and see how you feel – and then let me know.

Now for the specs on the dress. It is a  crazy soft stretch-jersey and it’s ruched at the side to create elegant drape—and a more forgiving fit—for the body-con cut.

34″ regular front length; 36 1/2″ back length (size Medium)

32 1/2″ petite front length; 35″ back length (size Medium P)

Now, when I say this dress is versatile, I’m not kidding:

  • It can be worn alone with a statement necklace for a dressy look.  (This is the same necklace, the Sullivan, worn two different ways).
  • I added the Gibson x Living in Yellow Claire Cardigan in poppy for a contrasting tone- on-tone look I love.  The Claire has a very subtle stripe in it and the stripe color is the same as the dress…to my eye at least!  I think it works and gives some coverage while maintaining the bold color.
  • Add a black blazer or convertible  fly away cardigan and pumps for an office look.
  • It can also be worn with flats or trendy sneaks for a casual look.  And your jean jacket and a scarf make for a great seasonal transitional look too!

Last but not least, even though this dress has very strategic ruching,  a little bit of spanx under it is a good idea for smoothing and lifting;)

There you have it!  Enjoy the rest of your week and here’s to welcoming SPRING to our world.

And speaking of SPRING…if you haven’t already…there’s still time to join my SPRING 2018 STYLE SYSTEM.   Outfit Formulas begin on Monday April 9th.  I’d love to have you join us!  Click HERE for more info or HERE to go straight to the sign up!

Cheers, my friends.  Now go #justgetdressed.
