Weekend Update 5/28/23

Hello and welcome to the Weekend Update!

Here are some of the things that went on this week. And if you aren’t already, be sure to follow me on Instagram @b.styled, Facebook, and in the free, private #justgetdressed VIP’s Facebook Group.  And, you can see the past live Tipsy Tuesday videos in the link above on my website.

1. Tipsy Tuesday: Replay of my interview with The Color Guru, Jeannie Silth

This week’s Tipsy Tuesday was inspired by a 1:1 zoom consult I had with a favorite client. She had her colors done by the

the Color Guru and her results were throwing her off. She had done Color Me Beautiful many years ago (I remember Mary had that book back in the 70’s-80’s).  She was typed a Winter back then.  When she had her colors re-done by the Color Guru she was typed as a Summer and was missing her bright, bold jewel tones.  She, like many of us, is a rule-follower, so this “new” color scheme was throwing her off.

I could relate because it turns out I’m also a Summer, but have always gravitated to the Winter colors.  We went through her card and identified colors and shades that she had been overlooking and even found pieces in her closet that showed up on her card and she saw them in a new light.

I think the key take-aways are:

1. Our best colors can in fact change as we age, and our skin tones and hair color change. You can learn more about the Color Guru services here, and use code bstyled to save 10% of any package.

2. You get to decide how strict or loose you want to be about choosing your colors. When in doubt, consider whether a color is warm or cool when deciding, and also how close to your face it will be. If you love a color that is not great on you, you could use it in a shoe or bag – provided it works with the rest of your wardrobe.

3. In the end, try not to get hung up in perfectionism and exactly matching the colors on your card. This will lead to undo stress, and goodness knows this is NOT something we need to stress about. I’m a big believe in style and dressing being FUN and an expression of our personalities…and color is a great way to do that! #justgetdressed.

 2. 28 Done-For-You Outfit Prompts

Did you miss or skip the Spring Style System this year? Well, for the first time, I’m offering the 28 Outfit Templates in a 4-week calendar format for purchase for just $17. This is a clickable PDF that you can also print out and keep in your closet to help eliminate the “what to wear?” conundrum.

The spring outfits are easy to adjust based on your weather and the type of day you have and are geared toward the “everyday” woman looking to dress in a modern but classic, pull-together way  — using what’s already in your closet.  Just take the formula and inspiration and plug-in pieces you own and — voila!  #justgetdressed.

3. Are you a member of the Frizzy Hair Club? 🙋‍♀️

As a life-long, card-carrying member, I’ve tried umpteen “magical” products to manage my thick, frizzy, curly hair. I still refer to “Marcia Brady hair” longingly — it was the hair I coveted all my life. It’s true about always wanting what we don’t have, isn’t it?

**Both hair and skincare have been hot topics in my free Prep for Summer Accountability Group. – there’s still time to join!

At my last visit to the salon (shout out to Rianna Marie, owner of Le Creme in Natick MA — it was worth the trip to get a great refresh) she recommended a new styling cream. It worked beautifully on her blowout – but as we all know, it can be a much different story when we get home and use it ourselves…There really is nothing like a professional blowout, right?

Well, I used it this week and have to say, I’m a believer. Normally, no matter what I put on my hair or how well I condition it, it still ends up frizzy, and takes a day or two to calm down. The picture below was taken immediately after I blew it out.  I used a big dollop of the Mizani cream combined with a pump of the Moroccan Oil Cream. I rough-dried it (my hair dryer) about 70% using a paddle brush and then finished it off using this electric styling brush.

4. CAbi Favorites…

I created a catalog of my CAbi favorites that still have availability in most sizes (at this time). Keep in mind that supplies are limited though, and when July rolls around these items all go off their site. I’ve really enjoyed working with CAbi this season and am very impressed with the style and quality of the clothing. This catalog features items I’ve tried myself and love – and that are still available…See below for pics of many of them in action.

If you have any questions or need help, let me know. I put sizing info in the catalog but I’m happy to help with individual Q’s; just ask! And when in doubt I usually recommend sizing down on CAbi pieces if you’re on the bubble. But again, I’m here to help!  beth@bstyledbybeth.com.
